Homelessness
Homelessness is a complex issue driven by systemic factors like housing shortages, mental health crises, and economic instability. While personal responsibility matters, we must address these broader societal challenges.
To effectively combat homelessness in Colorado Springs and nationwide, I advocate for targeted, data-driven solutions. My priorities include:
* Expanding affordable housing access via programs like Section 8.
* Investing in comprehensive mental health and substance abuse services.
* Supporting job training for self-sufficiency.
* Implementing "Housing First" models.
* Preventing homelessness by addressing root causes.
* Protecting homeless individuals from housing discrimination.
* Establishing federal grants for public restroom facilities to improve sanitation.
* Exploring public-private partnerships to maximize grant funding.
I will also champion community-based solutions to balance the needs of all stakeholders, including designated safe spaces and enhanced public sanitation.
By focusing on systemic solutions and collaborative efforts, we can create a more compassionate and effective approach to homelessness.
